Simotion is the ideal system to respond to the complex needs of motion control. It can multitasking handle both the functions of axes motion control, even the most complex, and logic functions associated to machine automation.
The decentralized version, integrated into the Sinamics S family, allows the creation of modular and scalable HW and SW architectures, for all application needs.
Specifically studied for production machines, the motion control system Simotion D is able to cover all performance levels with extremely short cycle times and a large number of axes. Thanks to its scalability, Simotion offers a high degree of flexibility, even with respect to the changing needs of the machine automation.
The new multi-axis, drive-based control system, Simotion D, provides PLC, motion control and technological functions and an integrated drive control based on Sinamics S120 drive series.

The new generation of multi-axis controllers, tripling calculation performances, is able to handle up to 128 axes, integrates a Profinet interface and increases the number of I/O for technological functions. With Simotion D4x5-2, the Profinet IO interface, previously optional, has now been directly integrated in order to free up a slot that is then available for other expansion options. The interface is equipped with an integrated 3-port switch and it enables the construction of different networks, with no need for additional external switches. The interface supports not only the real-time (RT) data exchange, but also the isochronous real-time data exchange (IRT) and it can be used as a controller and/or a device.
Simotion D4x5- 2 has even two Profibus interfaces and two Ethernet interfaces, as well as 28 digital I/O. 16 of these I/O can be used for technological tasks such as digital output cams with a microsecond resolution.
